VPH-Dare@IT: Evaluation of large-scale data processing, mathematical modelling Lead Investigator: Susheel Varma Institution : University of Sheffield E-Mail : susheel.varma@sheffield.ac.uk Proposal ID : 794 Proposal Description: This study will aim to evaluate the project consortium's state-of-the-art brain image segmentation tools and brain fluid transport models against a large cohort of Dementia and control subjects to identify potential imaging and modelling biomarkers for early and accurate diagnosis of Dementia. The tools are designed to process large cohorts of subjects to extract imaging and modelling features which are combined with cognitive, lifestyle, vascular and clinical characteristics to be applied to a statistical learning tool to classify subjects and identify potentially significant imaging/modelling features for differential diagnosis (classification) of MCI and Dementia patients. Additionally we also plan to use the longitudinal dataset to generate disease progression curves for each sub-cohort. The ultimate goal is to build a predictive model using primarily imaging/modelling features to predict the disease progression of the subject and further classify patients into disease subtypes for use within a Clinical Decision Support tool (already developed within the project).
